Bellingham, WA - At 8:02 this morning Brandon Nelson paddled to the crowded shoreline of Bellingham's Lake Whatcom having successfully broken the Guinness World Record for Ultra Marathon Distance Kayaking. While the record still needs to be verified for Guinness, the final statistics are: Time: 24 hours Distance: 147 miles Previous record: 137 miles Average Speed: 6.3 MPH Late yesterday afternoon, Brandon heard a crack while paddling and his special boat, the CA-125 began to take on water. He quickly switched to a Seda Glider, his backup boat, which wasn't nearly as fast or easy to paddle. The WWU Vehicle Research team patched up the CA-125 and Brandon was able to switch back to the lighter boat and the calmer evening weather. Learn more about Brandon's awesome undertaking and his special cause in this Wetdawg.com interview.
