On the second day of official snowboardcross training in Bardonecchia, Jayson Hale (Sugarbowl, Calif.) missed his landing coming off the "Wu Tang" jump toward the end of the snowboardcross course and sustained a right knee injury. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time and he is being transported to Sestriere for further evaluation.
Hale was taking a solo training run on the course and caught too much air coming off the quarter pipe jump known as a "Wu Tang," just prior to the course's final corner.
Hale finished third at the 2005 World Championships to cap off a solid 2005 campaign.
Update on Hale's Injury: "Jayson suffered a torn ACL on his right knee and will be unable to compete in Olympic competition," stated Dr. Jim Sterling, Chief Medical Officer for the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team. "He has significant bone bruising around that area as well. However, he is comfortable and stable. He is still undecided on whether he wants to remain here in Italy or return home, but for now he is living in the Olympic Village in Bardonecchia."
