SESTRIERE, Italy (Feb. 19) - A new face at the '06 Olympics takes to the hill Monday as three-time Olympian Erik Schlopy (Park City, UT) joins Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), Bode Miller (Bretton Woods, NH) and Daron Rahlves (Sugar Bowl, CA) to race in the men's giant slalom.
Ligety, Miller and Rahlves have all skied events already, but the GS will be Schlopy's first.
Ligety, competing at his first Olympics, has been the story so far for the U.S. Ski Team as he won gold in the combined.
Miller, the '02 silver medalist in GS, is the top-ranked American GS skier on the World Cup in sixth. Rahlves is 10th, Schlopy 12th and Ligety 23rd.
Austrian Benjamin Raich leads the GS standings, followed by Italy's Massimiliano Blardone and Swede Fredrik Nyberg.
