Why rent another gas-guzzling SUV for your three hour (5 mile) tour around L.A.'s freeways when there's a more environmental solution? Bio-Beetle Rental cars has opened its doors to Los Angeles visitors with its first office, near LAX. Bio-Beetle's cars are fueled not by gasoline, but by filtered vegetable oil.

Harnessing the contradiction that is California: the most environmentally friendly state in the union and, ultimately, home to the car capital of the world, Bio-Beetle founder Shaun Stenshol is excited about this new venture.

According to Yahoo News, Bio-Diesel costs about a dollar more per gallon than traditional gasoline (about $3.45 per gallon), but a tank of bio-diesel fuel gets between 400 to 800 miles per gallon. Right now there's only one place to fuel up in LA, but Stenshol plans to open more fueling stations around the metro area. Until then, McDonald's anyone?
