

SAAS FEE, Switzerland -- U.S. Snowboarding's Lizzy Beerman (Weston, VT) turned in the best World Cup result of her young career as she finished sixth Friday in the second World Cup halfpipe event of the season.
Olympic bronze medalist Kjersti Buaas of Norway had the highest score on each of the two final runs and won with 40.6 points from her final ride. Beerman, a 16-year-old rider from Vermont's Stratton Mountain School who was riding in her third World Cup, had 18.8 points.
Earlier, in the men's competition, Broc Waring (Edwards, CO) had the top U.S. men's result - and also produced his top World Cup result. Swiss rider Iouri Podladtchikov won with 43.9 points. Waring, 15, from Colorado's Vail Mountain School, was 11th in the field of 51 riders with 20.2 points. His first World Cup event came last March.
The next World Cup halfpipe contest is scheduled for Jan. 27 at Bardonecchia, Italy, the Olympic venue in 2006.
