A 31 year-old Japanese man has embarked on a sea kayak trip from the north of the main Philippine island Luzon to Hualien in eastern Taiwan. Radio Australia reports he hopes to be the first man to paddle across the 700 kilometres of sea within a month. Tokyo-born Satoru Yahata of Okinawa is making the voyage in a five-meter kayak. Last year, he paddled his kayak across almost 300 km of sea from Hualien to Ishigaki Island in Okinawa. Mr Yahata says he is planning to complete a kayak tour from Australia to Japan if he succeeds in crossing from the Philippines to Taiwan.
