DiveFilm.com - DiveFilm Podcast Video, the first podcast of underwater content to be included on the iTunes "Featured Video Podcasts" list, has now become the first podcast of underwater content to make the iTunes "Featured Education Podcasts" list. "While the video podcasts I produce are meant to entertain viewers, it's important to me that they also help raise awareness about our relationship to the ocean and its inhabitants," said Mary Lynn Price, the podcast producer. "It's heartening to me that iTunes is recognizing this aspect by including DiveFilm Podcast Video on their "Featured Education Podcasts" list. Price's video podcasts can be accessed on any computer through the free iTunes program by clicking on the following link, which will launch iTunes on the computer and open DiveFilm's Podcast Video page: http://tinyurl.com/je8ro Subscribing to the video podcasts is free. Podcasts are among the newest wave of digital content available for handheld and mobile devices, such as the new video iPod, and can also be viewed on computers and TVs. The most recent of the 17 current DiveFilm episodes available, "Beqa, Fiji," focuses on Fiji's locally managed Marine Protected Areas. Past episodes include a timely interview with the late Peter Benchley, a podcast from Denmark on "Diving Scandinavia," and episodes highlighting conservation concerns regarding sharks and mantas. Other episodes feature a short film by renowned underwater photographer and writer, Eric Hanauer on the sunken P-38 fighter plane off the coast of Del Mar, a video featuring shark footage by renowned photographer, cinematographer and author, Marty Snyderman, a two-part series on the massive squid spawning events off the California coast that includes historic footage and interviews with a Scripps scientists. Price started one of the first streaming video websites for underwater videos back in 2000, DiveFilm.com, so pioneering new venues for streaming video is something she's been immersed in for some time. "I want to make images showing the beauty of the underwater world accessible to more people, so I started learning how to make podcasts. I think that as more people learn more about the underwater world, they'll come to care for it more. And what better way to share images of what we see underwater," said Price of the new video podcasts. Notes John Moore, administrator of the San Diego diving resource website, Divebums.com, one of the sponsors of the podcast series, "This podcast has really broken new ground. Not only is it the only underwater video podcast now on Apple's 'featured video podcast' list, but now it's also now a 'featured education podcast.' This is a great opportunity to reach a larger and more diverse audience about something we all love."
