Slovak climbers Dodo Kopold and Gabo Čmárik have climbed an enormous new route on the southwest side of Great Trango Tower in Pakistan. The two climbers, who were part of a Slovak expedition to the area last year, where they made an alpine-style ascent of Khanadan Buttress on Shipton Spire. According to K2climb.net, the new route on Trango follows a line opened up last season by American climbers Kelly Cordes and Josh Wharton. The Slovaks have named the route Assalam Alaikum.

"The route involved 90-plus pitches and was graded UIAA 8 A2 (roughly 5.11+ A2)," sources told Climbing.com. The Slovaks climbed alpine-style, battling poor weather and avalanche conditions on the descent of the western slope. They are still traveling, so more details are likely to be available soon.
